  • Dr. Ashok R. Mehta

    Dr. Mehta was Professor and Head, Department of Surgery and a Surgeon and Chief of Head & Neck Service ‘A', Department of Surgery, Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai, till he retired on January 1st, 1998, and Surgical Oncologist at the Jaslok Hospital, Mumbai, until he relinquished the post in 1997.

    Dr. Mehta was awarded the Dr. B. C. Roy National Award 1996 in the category of Development of Specialties in Different Branches of Medicine. His colleagues recognized his contribution to the profession when he was elected President of Association of Surgeons of India (1986). He is currently the President of the Indian Society of Head and Neck Oncology and the Past President of the Indian Society of Oncology. He is a Past President of the Oncology Section of the Association of Surgeons (1981) and was the Secretary of the Indian Society of Head and Neck Oncology (1985 - 1989) and the Indian Society of Oncology (1988 - 1992).

  • Dr. Mahendra Bhandari

    A renowned urological surgeon with over 40 years of experience, Dr Bhandari joined Vattikuti Urology Institute (VUI) Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit, Michigan in 2006. At the VUI Dr. Bhandari focused on developing a clinical research program and organized the largest database of robotic radical prostatectomy in the world. He coordinated the development of new robotic surgical applications for kidney surgery and the robotic surgery in children. Currently, he is actively promoting the development of robotic surgery in India.

    While in India, he trained in urology at the prestigious Christian Medical College,Vellore. He has worked in senior capacities at the SMS Medical College, Jaipur, All India Institute of Medical Science, New Delhi (AIIMS), JIPMER Pondicherry, Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute, Lucknow and at the University of Florida, Gainesville.

    He was appointed as the Director of Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences for two terms and was the Vice Chancellor of King Georges Medical University, Lucknow. He founded the first virtual medical university at the Apollo Hospitals in 2001 branded as Medvarsity.

    Dr. Bhandari served as the President of the Urological Society of India, Indian Society of organ transplantation and the Asian Society of Transplantation. He founded the prestigious Indian Journal of Urology and was the first editor from 1984-1994. The Journal is a peer reviewed, indexed, open-access and widely read source of urological literature. He served on the editorial board of several prestigious journals including the British Journal of Urology.

    He is the founder of the Center of the Biomedical Magnetic Resonance Institute at Lucknow, India and is an Honorary Professor at the Institute.

    Dr. Bhandari was awarded the prestigious Dr B.C Roy award in the year 1996 and the Padma Shri by the Government of India in 2000. A medical graduate from the SMS Medical College Jaipur, Dr. Bhandari is also a graduate in Biostatistics from the Harvard University and an MBA from in Ross School of Business, University of Michigan. Currently, he is a senior staff and the Director of Robotic Surgery Research at the Vattikuti Urology Institute and the CEO of the Vattikuti Foundation, Michigan U.S.

  • Dr. Mani Menon MD

    Dr Mani Menon is a pioneer in robotic surgery and one of the foremost urologists in the United States. His robotic surgery innovations have made robotic radical prostatectomy the surgical standard of care for prostate cancer. Dr. Menon also developed the first catheter-free approach.

    He joined the Henry Ford Hospital in 1997 to invigorate its prostate cancer program. Since performing the first robotic prostatectomy at the Henry Ford Hospital in 2001, Dr. Menon and the Vattikuti Urology Institute team continue to have the longest and the largest robotic prostate surgery experience in the U.S and the world: nearly 10 years and more than 6,000 robotic prostate surgeries.

    In the 1980’s, he headed the University of Massachusetts Medical School’s Division of Urological and Transplantation Surgery. Under Dr. Menon’s leadership, the Department of Urology at the University of Massachusetts became the largest in New England and one of the best in the country, as ranked by the U.S News and World Report.

    Trained under the eminent urologist Patrick Walsh, M.D, at the Brady Urological Institute at Johns Hopkins, Dr. Menon became the youngest tenured clinical faculty member.

    Dr. Menon has published over 1000 papers and abstracts, primarily in the field of robotic surgery, renal transplantation and urolithiasis. His work has appeared in major urological journals as well as in the New England Journal of Medicine. He is a past member of the National Kidney and Urologic Diseases Advisory Board and a trustee of the American Board of Urology.

    Profiled in the The Best Doctors of America and the International Who’s Who in Biology and Medicine, Dr. Menon is the recipient of many awards and honors including the Dr B.C Roy National Award for Eminence in Medicine (2008), Gold Cystoscope Award from the American Urological Association and Shusruta Award of Distinction in Urology from the Indian American Urological Association, to name a few.

    Dr. Menon, an alumnus of Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (JIPMER) Pondicherry, India, completed his residency in Urology at the Brady Urological Institute at the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, USA.

  • Dr. Naresh Trehan

    Dr. Naresh Kumar Trehan is a renowned cardiovascular and cardiothoracic surgeon, currently the Chairman and Managing Director, Medanta - The Medicity

    Prior to being at Medanta, Dr. Naresh Trehan was a Senior Cardiovascular and Thoracic Surgeon at Apollo Hospitals New Delhi from 2007 - 2009. Dr. Trehan was the founder of the Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre and served as Executive Director and Chief Cardiovascular Surgeon there for 20 years. He graduated from King George's Medical College, Lucknow and completed his internship at Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi. He subsequently obtained a diplomat from the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Cardiothoracic Surgery in the United States at New York University Medical Center. After obtaining his degrees, Dr. Trehan was in private practice at N.Y.U.Medical Center from 1979 to 1988, when he returned to India to set up Escorts Heart Institute and Research Centre. Dr Trehan established the first robotic cardiac surgery program in India in the year 2000. Dr. Trehan has received many prestigious awards, including the Padma Shree and the Padma Bhushan Award, by the Government of India.

  • Dr Prathap C Reddy

    Dr. Reddy received his medical degree from the Stanley Medical College in Chennai and later trained as a Cardiologist in the UK and USA. He did his Fellowship from the Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston and went on to head several research programs at the Missouri State Chest Hospital, USA where he worked for several years before returning to India in 1978, at the behest of his father.

    Dr Reddy's pioneering success includes the initiation of a change towards preventive care, by pushing for a new standard in assessing and diagnosing India's health to fight the triple terrors of diabetes, heart diseases and cancer through preventive health checks. Telemedicine, as in the world's first V-SAT enabled village, and health insurance like the Aragonda Re. 1/day scheme, were other successful pilots.

    As the Chairman of the CII National Healthcare Committee since 2006, Dr Reddy constituted sub-committees for drawing up standards for accreditation of Indian Hospitals for the very first time in the country. Ever since, the committees have done commendable work in the areas of medical value travel and medical code of ethics. One of the areas of significant impact has been in the area of budget recommendations to the Government and development of Health Insurance

    He received a number of esteemed awards and recognitions such as Mother St Teresa's 'Citizen of the Year Award', recognition in Harvard School publications for pioneering efforts in healthcare, 'Life Time Achievement Award' by Hospimedica International, the 'Asia Pacific Bio Business Leadership Award' by the University of Southern California, Modern Medicare Excellence Award by the ICICI Group for outstanding achievements in the healthcare industry and numerous others.

    Dr Prathap C Reddy was conferred with second highest civilian award, the 'Padma Vibhushan' in March 2010. This unequalled commendation from the Government of India is an acknowledgement of his untiring pursuit for excellence in healthcare as Apollo strives towards touching a billion lives.

  • Prof. S Sadagopan

    Professor Sadagopan is an educator, educational administrator, researcher, consultant and an outstanding communicator – all rolled into one. He is the Founder Director of the Indian Institute of Information Technology, Bangalore (IIIT - B) since 1999. Earlier he had taught at IIT Kanpur and IIM Bangalore – (the Best Engineering School and the Best Business School in India), for two decades. He obtained his undergraduate engineering degree from Madras University and his Master's and Doctoral degrees from Purdue University, USA. He is a Fellow of the IEE, UK, Computer Society of India and the Institution of Engineers (India). Moreover, he had also taught at IIT - Madras, India, Rutgers - New Jersey, USA, and AIT - Bangkok, Thailand for up to one full year, in addition to short term visits to MIT, Stanford, Purdue, and University of Washington in USA; Nijenrode in Europe; RMIT, UNSW and UWS in Australia; NUS and Temasek in Singapore; and ADBI, UNU and Nagaoka in Japan, some of the best universities around the world. He has authored two textbooks - Management Information Systems (Prentice Hall 1995) and ERP - A Managerial Perspective (Tata McGraw Hill 1999). He has contributed chapters to several books – Handbook of Information Systems (Academic Press 2002), Business Process Reengineering – Advancing the state-of-the-art, (Kluwer 1999), Management Perspectives (Macmillan, 1999) and Saket InfoTech Handbook (Saket, 1999)

    His publications have appeared in several international journals including IEEE Transactions, European J of Operational Research, J of Optimization Theory & Applications, Naval Research Logistics, Simulation, Decision Support Systems, ACM Ubiquity etc., He is a referee for several journals and serves on the editorial boards of many journals. He consults extensively to some of the largest private & public sector corporations in India, in Computing, Communications, Software, Automotive, Oil and Power industries as well as social sector. He is a member of the Board of Directors of several private and public sector corporations; he is also a member of the Board of Studies of several Universities.

    He was a Fulbright Scholar in 1995 and his name is listed in Marquis’s Who's Who in the World since 1997. He is Member of the ACM, IEEE – Computer Society and AIS; he is a Life Member of the Computer Society of India and represents India in the TC9 Sub-committee of the International Federation of Information Processing Societies (IFIP)

  • Dr. Samiran Nundy

    Dr. Samiran Nundy was a medical undergraduate in Cambridge and Guy's Hospital London and then trained first in Medicine at the Hammersmith Hospital, and later in Surgery at Guy's, Addenbrookes Cambridge, the Hammersmith, and finally the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston. He has taught at the Universities of Cambridge, London and Harvard and returned to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences in 1975 where he eventually became Professor and Head of the Department of Gastrointestinal Surgery. He left AIIMS in 1996 and now heads the GI Surgical department in the Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi.

    His clinical and research interests are in the management of complicated diseases of the liver, bowel and pancreas as well as in the quality of Indian medical research and publications.

    He has been Founder Editor of 'The National Medical Journal of India' and 'Tropical Gastroenterology' and serves on a number of journal Editorial Boards including the 'British Medical Journal'. In November 2000 Dr. Nundy launched Doctor attracting initially 5000 page views and 10 queries a day. It is now a leading Indian health website for general public and attracts 400 million page views a month and has 290 experts from all over the world who answers about 120 queries a day.
